     Once you arrive in Mexico, you will find very little opportunity to find flies, extra equipment and tackle for offshore and flats fishing. You will want to be prepared by making sure you have all of the recommended items with you.

     OFFSHORE

Rods: 12-14 weight rods are best for sailfish and marlin.
Reels: A sturdy large arbor reel with a good drag system that holds at least 400 yds. of backing.
Fly Lines: Sink tip lines are what you will use. Deep sea lines in 300-500 grain and floating lines are suggested. (Quantity 3)
Leaders: 16-20 lb. tippet with 100-125 lb. shock tippet. Climax and Rio both make offshore leaders. (Quantity 2-4 per day per person)

     FLATS

Bonefish
· 7-9 weight fast action rod
· Weight forward, floating line with saltwater taper
· Disc drag, large arbor reel with at least 200 yards of backing
· 9 ft-12 ft leaders with 8-12 lb. clear
Permit
· 8-10 weight ro ds
&mid dot; Floating saltwater line, and clear intermediate sinking line
· Disc drag, large arbor reel with at least 200 yards of backing
· 9-12 ft leaders with 8-12 lb. clear monofilament or fluorocarbon tippet

Tarpon
· For the fly fisher:
· 8-10 weight rods
· Floating saltwater line and clear intermediate sinking line
· Disc drag, large arbor reel with at least 300 yards of backing
6-9 ft leaders with 15 lb. clear monofilament or fluorocarbon and 60 lb. shock tippet
