A Eilean A Cheo (Gaelic for "Island
in the Mist")
is owned by Jan and Gordon Cuthbertson. It is located about 30 miles south-east
of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland, in the village of Cromdale
near Grantown-on-Spey. It is among many places to stay in the area, but
is the only one that caters specifically to the traveling fly fisher.
Their main goal is to gather people together who are focussed on the same
goal - sport fishing on the River Spey.
The
service and facilities that A Eilean A Cheo provides are intended to enhance
the experience of visiting fly fishers with their flexibility and customization.
They provide a rod and tackle room, drying room, and packed lunches for
a day at the river. They are happy to make arrangements for night fishing,
fishing at other rivers, and speycasting lessons.
A Eilean a Cheo has access to 4 miles of
double bank fishing on prime water of the River Spey. In addition, they
have access to 1 1/2 miles for three days a week on the Upper Castle Grant
beat on the River Spey.
A Eilean a Cheo holds up to six guests with
shared bathroom facilities. The rooms are doubles, some with one full-size
bed, others with two twins.
Breakfast and dinner are both served
at A Eilean a Cheo, with boxed lunches packed daily. All of the food is
home-cooked and freshly prepared, mostly from local produce such as lamb,
beef, venison and seasonal vegetables. A Eilean A Cheo is certainly the
best place for the traveling fly fisher to experience fishing on the Classic
Spey.
