FLIGHTS: To
get to the fishing lodges, you will need to fly into San Jose, Costa Rica.
From there, you will fly on smaller planes with Sansa Airlines to get
out to the different spots on the coast. These flights can have delays
as well as cancellations, so you will want to make sure to plan your trip
with travel days so as not to interfere with your fishing time. There
is also a 25 lb. per person limit for luggage while traveling within Costa
Rica so make sure you pack light! There is a $17 USD departure tax when
leaving Costa Rica.
PASSPORTS:
A valid passport is required for all visitors to Costa Rica. U.S. citizens
do not need a visa to enter Costa Rica.
MONEY: The currency in Costa Rica is called "colones." It is
about 300 colones to each US dollar. As in many countries in Central America,
the American dollar is widely accepted as payment, although you will probably
get better rates by paying in colones.
FOOD AND WATER:
The food in Central America is safe to eat and generally prepared with
great care. The water at both of the lodges is purified, so you are safe
to drink the water from the taps. While staying in San Jose, w
e would
hig
hly recommend drinking bottled water.
TIPS: Although we know tips are very personal, we like to provide
a few guidelines because of the questions we normally get on the subject.
All recommendations are per day per person and can be given to your crew
at the end of your stay. At Golfito-Captain: $20, Mate: $10, Housekeeping:
$10 per day per room, Dock: $5, Other staff: at your discretion. At Carrillo-Boat:
$135 for the boat per day split between captain and mates, Housekeeping:
$10 per day per room, Other staff: at your discretion.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: There are no immunizations required for entry
into Costa Rica. For the latest information on health and immunization
requirements worldwide, you may visit the Center for Disease Control web-site
at www.cdc.gov. There is little access to quality health care near the
lodges. Make sure that you bring any required medications and basic first
aid supplies.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend travel insurance for your
trip to Costa Rica. As mentioned above, there is limited ac
cess to quality
care. We have taken great precautions in providing a trip that is safe
and rewarding. In the event that something unexpected were to happen,
it would be wise to have prepared in advance by purchasing travel insurance. We
can provide you with the necessary insurance information.
