FLIGHTS: You
will need to arrange your flight to Belize City from your point of origin.
The price of our trips includes the airfare from Belize City to Ambergris
Caye. Once you clear customs in Belize City, you will head to the Mayan
Island Air counter for the flight to the island. Your baggage allowance
on Maya Air is 40 lbs. You will present your voucher there and pay a $.75
USD departure tax to get your boarding pass. There is a $15 departure
tax that will need to be paid before leaving Belize on your way home.
TIMING: There are Maya Island Air flights scheduled after each
major flight that comes in from the states, so plan to arrive in Belize
City between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. and we'll get you to San Pedro.
PASSPORTS: A valid passport is required for all visitors to Belize.
You will be required to present your passport upon check-in at the airport.
No visa is required.
MONEY: Local currency is the Belize Dollar. One U.S. dollar is
worth BZ$2. Every vendor accepts either. Credit Cards are widely accepted,
although there is no ATM on the island. The Bank of Belize is open from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. where you can get cash from a credit card if needed,
and the best place to exchange money is at the Western Union office on
Front Street.
TIPPING: A $25 per day per person tip for your fishing guide is
average, although it is certainly a personal choice. You may tip your
guide on a daily basis or at the end of your trip.
PHONES AND INTERNET ACCESS: There is a pay phone in San Pedro next
to the park/basketball court. You can dial 114 or 115 to get operator
assistance to use your calling card. There are a couple of internet cafés
in town where you can check e-mail if necessary.
WATER: You should not drink the tap water at your hotel unless
they have specified that it has been purified. There are plenty of grocery
stores if you wish to purchase bottled water, and the water in the restaurants
is purified and safe to drink. If anything is questionable, think safe
and choose the bottled water.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: There are no immunizations required for entry
into Belize. For the latest information on health and immunization requirements
worldwide, you may visit the Center for Disease Control web-site at www.cdc.gov.
There is a basic health clinic on the island.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend
travel insurance fo
r your
trip to Belize. There is limited access to quality medical care. We have
taken great precautions in providing a trip that is safe and rewarding.
In the event that something unexpected were to happen, it would be wise
to have prepared in advance by purchasing travel insurance. Evacuation
insurance is available for minimal coverage, and complete travel insurance
is available for providing help with lost baggage, changed flights, etc.
We can provide you with the necessary insurance information.
