The Rio Grande The Rio Grande and Tierra del Fuego conjure up visions of huge sea run brown trout and luxurious accommodating in a wind swept barren land. The fishing on the Rio Grande is world renown and is considered to have the best runs of sea trout in the world. It's lower reaches near the ocean are larger than the rest of the river and anglers will find brightly colored brown trout. The river is generally easy to wade with shallower areas in the upper reaches. Although the region is famous for its cool weather and strong winds, anglers are still able to cast small flies on dry lines and take some enormous fish even in the most unfavorable conditions. The
owners of a major portion of the river are two bothers, Jorge and Fernando
Carreras. Thanks to the Carreras family, anglers are able to access this
famous river while staying in a choice of three different lodges. The
river is patrolled to ensure private access to particular beats and a
strict catch and release policy has increased the numbers of fish dramatically
in recent years.
