Rio Pico
When we fish the Rio Pico area we stay
in lakeside cabins. There is nothing like sleeping in cabins next to the
water you'll be fishing the next morning. The cabins are new and have
wood or ceramic tile floors. The accommodations are spacious and simple
with modern conveniences such as hot showers and a full bath. Most of
the meals are cooked out on the grill and fishing is the prime focus here.
Although there are a series of lakes in
the area to fish, the main attraction is a lake called Lago Tres or Lake
#3, which is actually a lagoon because is has no inlet or outlet. The
rainbows average 6 pounds, however, brown and rainbow trout up to 15 pounds
have been released. Last year our largest fish was only a 10.3 pound rainbow,
however, we had a some in the 7-8 pound range and none below 4 pounds.
The
conditions can be windy and cold and it is not a destination for the anglers
who cannot fair well in such conditions, but is a excellent choice for
the angler that wishes to see several larger fish. We usually stay 2 or
3 days and move on to another location.
