non-fishing
|
Patagonia has more to offer besides it's
wild trout. If desired you may break away from fishing and take advantage
of a wide variety of adventures. Our most popular non-fishing activity
is a day learning about and watching Andean condors with Lorenzo Sympson.
Lorenzo
is perhaps the most well known naturalist in the region who is head of
the UCLA California Condor Project based outside Bariloche. A day with
Lorenzo includes a morning walk to see a condor nest, a traditional Argentina
asado or barbeque for lunch and a afternoon walk or horseback ride to
see other pairs of condors. Lorenzo has a wealth of knowledge not only
on Andean condors but also on most birds of Argentina, alpine vegetation
and other animal and plant life. Lorenzo is also a veterinarian.
The
Fortin Chacabuco Lodge offers one of the best horseback riding trips in
all of Patagonia. You may choose to go for an hours ride or partake in
a multi-day pack trip through the foothills of the Andes, rediscovering
the trails and traditions of the ancient Indians and gauchos
. Ricki and
Alister who are the first hands at the Fortin Chacabuco Ranch will explain
the dynamics of ranching sheep with wild boar and the protected pumas
in the area. The Estancia Fortin Chacabuco was the first ranch in Argentina
to produce a genetically superior sheep for both wool and meat.
At the
Hess and Mascardi Lodge, there is easy access to trails for hiking and
horseback riding, as well as endless photographic opportunities with waterfalls,
glaciers and surrounding wildlife. Other
possibilities are taking the chairlift to the top of the ski mountain,
or play golf at the famous Lao Lao Hotel.

For those that wish to immerse themselves
in the cultural side of Patagonia, Argentina, many old estancias welcome
visitors and the local towns are rich with museums and elegant shops.
In the town of Bariloche there are
a variety of half
or full day lake excursions by way of boat. These include
half and full day trips to walk through rare and ancient forests and to
visit amazing waterfalls. You can also float cross the Andes Mountain
to find yourself in Chile. Of Course, a friendly English speaking Argentine
will accompany you on all of these trips to insure sure that no question
goes unanswered.
For those who would like to learn how
to fly fish, we are happy to provide lessons and equipment. You do not
need to be an expert fly fisher to enjoy the sport or the area.
